The Keystone Heights File 039

Keystone Heights: The Hum Above the House

Before dawn in August 2026, a Florida resident reported a dark V-shaped object over their home. The next night, they said, the humming returned.

A humming sound drew the resident to the back porch. Through the windows, they had seen nothing. Outside, they looked up.

In a report submitted to the National UFO Reporting Center, the resident of Keystone Heights, Florida, described a dark V-shaped outline above the house and backyard. Six lights shone beneath it. A larger blue-green light pointed towards the ground between the house and the garage.

The time, the witness said, was about 4 a.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026.

A sound above the roof

Something had woken the resident. At first, the humming was faint. They checked the front and back windows before stepping onto the porch, where the sound became more noticeable. Only then did they look overhead and make out what they described as the object’s enormous, dark shape.

The published account calls it a chevron. The witness estimated it was about the size of a football field and perhaps 200 to 300 feet away. Those figures were impressions formed in darkness, without a measured distance or a photograph to establish scale. What held the witness’s attention was the arrangement of lights: six smaller ones under the shape, and the larger blue-green light directed down into the space beside the home.

The witness thought the light might be searching for something. That was their interpretation of its apparent direction, not a known purpose. Frightened, they went back inside and retrieved a rifle. They later wrote that they feared being taken by whatever they believed was overhead.

They estimated that the episode lasted about ten minutes. The report does not describe how the shape departed. Its sequence ends with the witness’s fear and the experience of having seen it above the property.

The following night

The next night, according to the same account, the humming returned. This time the resident stayed indoors. They did not report a second view of the V-shaped form and said they had not thought to take a photograph during the first encounter.

Two cats had been living outside and spending time on the back porch. The witness added that one was missing after the incident. The report gives no way to establish when or why the cat disappeared. It does show what had stayed with the resident after the noise stopped: concern about the animal, and a question for others who might have seen a similar shape.

The resident sent the account to NUFORC on August 24, three days after the first reported sighting. NUFORC posted it on August 27. The public record is brief, but it preserves the order in which the experience unfolded: a sound heard indoors, an empty view through the windows, a step onto the porch, and a dark outline above the house.

What Is Known

The NUFORC entry records one observer, an approximate time of 4 a.m. on August 21, and an estimated duration of ten minutes. It preserves a firsthand account submitted three days later, but includes no photograph, second witness statement or investigation findings. The object’s apparent size and distance are estimates; the missing cat has no established connection to the sighting.

The Bigger Picture

The J. Allen Hynek Center for UFO Studies notes that triangular and boomerang shapes recur in sighting reports, though the broad characteristics of those cases remain poorly assessed. A shared outline does not establish a shared cause. NASA’s independent UAP study explains why sparse civilian reports, without multiple measurements, seldom allow a firm conclusion. Neither source investigated Keystone Heights. What survives is the resident’s sequence, written down soon afterward: a hum, a step outside, and a shape they said they saw above home.
